Personal Counselling

I work with individuals and couples, offering confidential sessions to discuss difficulties which arise in relationships, the workplace, or when life takes a difficult turn. Clients attend counselling for many reasons, such as having problems with:

  • Love relationships, sexual performance, and sexual identity
  • Work relationships, feelings of anger, or underachievement
  • Sudden experience of stress or anxiety
  • Depression, feeling apathetic or low
  • Difficulty in coming to terms with loss or bereavement
  • Substance misuse, difficult feelings around a hidden addiction
  • Coming to terms with a medical diagnosis

    Following your enquiry, we can decide if to meet for an initial consultation. Here you have the opportunity to explore your difficulties, and for us to both come to a decision on how we could work together. Often people find a sense of relief for having been able to speak to someone in full confidence, and for having taken the important first step.

    Psychodynamic Counselling
    Psychodynamics considers the psychological roots of emotional suffering. Its features are self-reflection and self-examination, with a goal to not only alleviate the most obvious symptoms but to help people lead healthier lives. We achieve this through actively listening to your story, and considering how you relate to yourself and other people. Together we will think about the gaps in these relationships, and start the change. You will not be given advice or my idea of a solution, instead you will have the non-judgemental space and time with an experienced counsellor, to allow your own solutions to emerge.

    Brief counselling
    We would adopt a more integrative and direct approach here to first formulate the question or problem you wish to consider, then work to offer some resolution based on analysing the underlying barriers.

    CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
    CBT looks at the conscious thoughts and feelings which lead to behaviour you see as a problem. It requires you to be able to name your feelings and to have a focus on presenting symptoms. The work is time-limited.
